Julie Thompson
Julie grew up on a mixed farming property in Port Pirie, South Australia. Julie has a natural gift and has loved all animals (especially horses) since she could walk. In 1987 Julie moved to Bunbury, Western Australia where she became involved in breeding and successfully showing the Akita Inu dog. In 1993, she bought the Canning Vale Boarding Kennels and Cattery; with a lot of passion and hard work she has developed it into a first class boarding accommodation facility, which provides top quality care for pets.
Ray and Jean
Ray and Jean are retired farmers from Port Pirie, South Australia. Farmers have the ability of always knowing how to "fix" things!!! Ray has proven this with his continuous care and maintenance when required at the kennels.
Jean's passion, like her daughter's has always been animals. Her other passion is gardening, which can be seen by her development and care of the beautiful gardens at the Canning Vale Boarding Kennels and Cattery.

For any business to be successful, Julie believes that the working environment must be happy and fulfilling. The staff at Canning Vale Boarding Kennels and Cattery are very, carefully selected. Emphasis is not only put on employee’s qualifications and experience in pet boarding facilities, but also, very importantly, their caring attitude towards each other and their obvious passion towards their work and the animals placed in their care. There must also be a strong desire to work happily as a team member.
Kate
Kate’s interest in working with animals began, after a short period of time volunteering at a local pet store in 2005. After graduating from high school in 2007, Kate was determined to put her passion for animals into something constructive and pursue a career in Animal Care. Kate has now been one of our employees since July 2008.
Kate has a gorgeous long-haired, Standard Dachshund named Trooper and a cute little black and white cat named Paige, she aspires to own many more pets in the near future.
Keira
Keira has always had a great love for animals. She has three beautiful little girls, (Pomeranian x Toy Poodle named Ayla, a Maltese x Shi Tzu named Jasmine, and a Tabby cat named Maxie), and has found great joy in working with all the animals and staff at the Canning Vale Boarding Kennels and Cattery.
Keira was most recently in charge of taking care of the wildlife at Adventure World and has chosen to move on to taking care of people’s beloved furkids while they are away. She enjoys working with the team here at the kennels and finds the work extremely rewarding.
Jeremy
I was lucky enough to begin my career in the Animal Care industry at City Farmers. During my four years there, I learnt all the ins and outs of pet care and nutrition. I enjoy working at Canning Vale Boarding Kennel and Cattery, as it is hands on with the animals and I can put to use all that I have learnt. I am also the proud owner of Charlie the Border Collie and Floyd, a Kelpie x.
Abby
Abby and her family have always been huge animal lovers. Her Mum and Dad loved the company of the Rough Collie breed, while her Grandfather bred and raced Greyhounds and Thoroughbred race horses.
When younger, Abby attended Pony Club and competed in many events, including representing her Pony Club at the Prince Phillip Games. She then went on to become an Apprentice Thoroughbred Jockey but then decided she wanted to do more with horses and began working on a stud farm.
Since then, Abby has decided to change her career, and has been working with dogs for some time now, and has had the experience of working in a few kennels, before joining the team at the Canning Vale Boarding Kennels & Cattery. In Abby’s spare time, she rescues and trains deaf dogs before placing them in a loving home for the rest of their life.
